Kathmandu Valley is changing fast, and nowhere is that shift more visible than at its edges. This half-day walk takes us to Khokana and Bungamati, twin Newar settlements where farmland and city life meet, often uneasily, as urbanisation steadily reshapes the surrounding fields. We begin late morning, walking traditional alleyways lined with centuries-old brick homes, workshops and shrines. Rather than viewing these villages as museum pieces, we meet them as living communities — farmers tending fields, artisans practising handicraft skills passed through generations, and home-based workers building livelihoods from traditional trades. Along the way, we stop for a local meal, cooked and served the way Newar families have done for years. This is contemporary Nepal at its most honest: neither fully rural nor fully urban, but somewhere in between, shaped by real people navigating real change. It's a rare chance to understand the valley beyond its temples and trekking trails — through the daily rhythm of the communities who call it home.
